VST Tillers Tractors was incorporated in the year 1967 with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan as Joint Venture Partners for the manufacture of Power Tillers. The factory was established on a 20 acre plot on the Whitefield Road. Power Tillers are used by small and medium farmers primarily for paddy cultivation. This machine has increased productivity and encouraged multiple cropping system for rice. The demand for this machine is growing at over 20% p.a. owing to Government sponsored schemes to encourage farmers to increase mechanization. The Company is a pioneer in the field. In the year 1985, the company entered into a technical collaboration with M/s. Mitsubishi Agricultural Machinery Co. for the manufacture of small 4 wheel drive tractors. Both products (tractors and tillers) are marketed in India through over 225 dealerships under the brand VST Shakti. The company has established a niche market for its compact four wheel tractor. It is used in inter-cultivation and spraying in vineyards, as well as in sugarcane and cotton fields. The company also trades in other farm machinery, namely Rice Transplanters and Reapers imported from China. It has regional offices in nine locations in India to facilitate the requirements of dealers. In 2010, VST Tillers Tractors acquired a 15 acre plot in Hosur for manufacturing small tractors. When this unit goes on stream during 2012, it will have an installed capacity of 15,000 tractors on a single shift. This unit will significantly enhance output in the years to come.
